Michigan Administrative Rule – Online Plea Available for Misdemeanor Crimes

A recent rule by the Michigan Supreme Court clarifies the use of online plea. Specifically, the Amendment of Rule 6.610 of the Michigan Court Rules formally recognizes digital or online plea submissions for misdemeanor cases. This rule clarification goes into effect on September 1, 2018.

According to the amendment,

A “writing” includes digital communications, transmitted through electronic means, which are capable of being stored and printed.
